This is my 4th heli, the first 2 were the micros you would see flying around the mall a few years back. They were fun but lacked control. After a couple weeks, I was bored and decided to order a Blade CX2. It was much more manueverable and gave me a run for my money skill wise. I didnt have enough room in the house to have much fun with it so it didnt get used a whole lot. A few weeks ago, I got the itch to try another heli out and figured the very small size would allow for more enjoyment in the limited space I have available. After a bit of research, I settled on the 9958 because it could bind to the Turnigy 9x transmitter that I'd already ordered and it had some decent reviews from other sources. I also wanted to stay away from the coax helis and try something a bit more difficult to fly but not too tough.
After charging it up Christmas morning, I set out to test my skills. It was tougher to fly than the CX2 but not too much. It was considerably quicker, too quick for me at this point (I'm very much a rookie still). There was very little wind outside so out the door I went. It was a load of fun to fly outdoors! I flew a bit to high and got caught up in the light breeze and started to drift into the neighbors back yard so I cut the throttle before it flew any further. I felt like a kid again as I knocked on the neighbors door and explained that my toy was in her backyard (I'm now 36). She opened up the gate and I grabbed the chopper. Back in my yard, I started flying again. I'd picked up a number of the Syma helis for my buddies to fly so there were 4 of us in the front yard flying at the same time. I bent down to pick up one of them while I was flying and crashed mine on power. That is where the fun ended. After the crash, I had a vibration in the tail motor/rotor that made flying it extremely difficult. I was able to bend the tail rotor a bit to make it at least flyable but it was still pretty rough to hang onto and suffered fairly severe TBE (toilet bowl effect).
Before the crash, the heli flew very stable and was very responsive. I hit the local hobby shop for some replacement rear rotors; the Blade MSR looked to have the same rotors but the only piece the shop had with the rotor included the boom and motor as well so I grabbed the whole unit. The tail motor for the MSR was considerably larger and I decided to go ahead and mount that while I was at it. Wiring the new motor was a bit tedious with the type of wire used with the MSR (looks to be epoxy coated wire vice silicon insulation). I got it wired back up and the heli was back in action but still suffered from TBE. The MSR tail motor didnt seem to provide any additional maneuverability over the stock motor. The tail motor has now failed and I suspect it may be a problem with the ESC vice the motor itself; perhaps it draws too much current?
I was very pleased with the performance and was going to order some replacement parts but decided to purchase another and use this as a parts donor instead. Hopefully chopper number 2 lasts a little longer (also have a Trex 100s on the way). I cant fault the chopper for my lack of skill or my failed science experiment. I'll update the post once "2" arrives (hopefully black and yellow this time vice the lavendar/yellow that showed up the first time...).
This heli should hold me over for a while. It is quite maneuverable, fairly quick, and is still pretty stable in the hands of a novice. I find it to be a nice upgrade in the skill required to fly from the CX2 but not so much that it's frustrating to fly.

I ordered this helicopter as an alternative to trying to fly my Blade 120 SR indoors. The unit looked fine when I received it and the seller went "above and beyond" to provide a yellow / black version because with my color-blindness, the red is too hard to keep up with. I charged the battery and tried to fly it but it only spun around in place when I applied throttle. Upon closer inspection I found that the tail motor was not turning on as I advanced the throttle. I tried the "return items or gift" link as was greeted with the following message: "For safety reasons, items that are classified as hazardous materials or use flammable liquids or gases cannot be returned to Amazon.com. Customers should dispose of hazardous materials according to Local, State and Federal regulations. Customers should contact their local government or local waste company for directions on how to dispose of Household Hazardous Waste."
Along with: "This order was sold and shipped by an Amazon Seller Upon completing this page, the details of this return will be sent to the seller for approval. If the return is automatically approved, your return label will be available right away. Otherwise, we'll need to wait for the seller to review this return request and provide a label or instructions on how to return your items." The only link available was "continue shopping" - there was nothing available to outline the reasons that product needs to be returned.
Apparently they can ship me "hazardous waste" but I can't ship it back for credit? I've emailed the seller but haven't gotten a response. I'd really like a replacement to try again to see if I maybe just got a lemon. Will keep you updated as to my experience with this seller.
