Customer Reviews

I was not expecting much from this chopper but I have been amazed by the quality and durability. This is my first remote control anything, even though I spent my youth building balsa models of all kinds of aircraft. I was able to fly this thing immediately, and even though I've bounced it off the ceiling a few times and crashed it into nearly everything else (except my wife - which is why I am alive to write this review), nothing has broken and nothing is out of whack. I use my iPhone's AC adapter and the USB cable included to recharge the chopper after a little over 10 minutes of flying time. It recharges in less than 45 minutes, which leaves enough time to think about what you might do better on your next flight.
The controls are a little touchy, but very responsive and not the least bit erratic. I start with the remote off and the chopper on. To "arm" the remote unit, after turning it on, you cycle the left joystick up and back once, which changes the flashing light on the remote to a steady glow. Then you are cleared for takeoff. I suggest adding a little forward stick (right joystick away from you) while you SLOWLY add throttle. You also want to take off from something flat and hard versus carpet to aid in stability during transition to flight. Little corrections can have a big impact on flight dynamics so take it easy. The left and right adjustments to the flight path are very precise. It's hard to imagine this level of precision in such an inexpensive little toy!
Be aware that ANY airflow in your house from ceiling fans or your HVAC will force you to make control adjustments to keep from flying into things, but you can do it with a little bit of trial and error. The thing is capable of moving very quickly and precisely as you gain confidence, but start out with LITTLE MOVES at first. The chopper is not designed for outdoor flight as it just doesn't have the power to overcome even light wind. Another issue with flying outside is that the controller works on an infrared signal which gets washed out in bright light rendereing the controller inoperable. Having said this, I couldn't resist taking mine into the front yard. A slight updraft propelled my little chopper up to about 40 feet before I chopped the throttle and it landed in the street without injury. The next evening, I tried it again in near dead calm air and was able to have quite a bit of fun with it as long as I stayed below about 15 feet. After than, I suspect the IR signal gets a little diffuse and causes some loss of fidelity between the controller and the receiver.
It takes a little getting used to but making coordinated turns is pretty easy. The tail rotor is mounted horizontally, which actually runds clockwise or counterclockwise to lift or lower the tail, which tilts the rotor forward to induce forward motion, or backward to induce reverse motion. I still haven't figured out how the left and right motion is accomplished but it is, as I stated above, very precise! A combination of forward and reverse and left to right on the right joystick is all you need to fly very precise and complex flight paths. You don't have to modulate the throttle much to compensate for right joystick control imputs, but a little adjustment during directional maneuvers allows to to maintain altitude. Adjusting the throttle and the directional control gives you absolute freedom and precision in all three dimensions. The only thing it won't do is fly inverted (not enough differential power between the tail rotor and the main rotors) but maybe future models will overcome this.
I highly recommend this chopper to anyone with any level of RC experience as it's a ball to play with and a lot of fun to fly. If you want to really have a blast, get two, give one to a friend, and chase each other around the house, or the office (when you are ready to look for another job) and go nuts. The unit ships with extra parts (including a rotor blades) but I have yet to break anything, and not for lack of trying. Oh, and if you live in a warm climate like me, it's fun to cool off by having the little guy hover over your head - it puts out a LOT of breeze for such a small chopper. I also would think this would make an ideal first RC chopper for anyone contemplating spending big bucks on something more robust for the outdoor environment (those tend to break when you crash into things). Enjoy!

This is my 4th mini RC heli and probably the second best performing behind the 108G followed by the 107G as third best, IMO. The only drawback to this little model (aside from being IR controlled) is that it is slightly tail heavy, and with small rotor blades, it is louder than the 107/108G. Equally annoying are the small plastic skids that snag pile carpet easily, but this may not be an issue for all users. This heli has an all plastic exterior which makes it light in weight and nimble to control and so far robust enough to withstand reasonable crashes - if this is your first RC copter there will be many crashes...
The elevator control is not spring loaded like the 107/108G which takes some getting used to for beginners, but is easy to adapt to. The light switch on the controller (turns led light on the heli on and off) is super cool for battery saving and night flight. The copter is relatively fast and responsive, more than my 107G models, and is stable in both in flight and hovering - did I mention it is loud?
The included USB charging cable connects solidly to the copter body and the plug lights up to let you know it is done charging - I use an iPhone USB power adapter to charge but a computer or laptop work too. The on/off switch on the heli body is larger than most for it's size and easy to operate, this is a nice feature. There is an option to charge off the controller but I'd rather not shorten the batteries in the controller. From dead empty (won't lift) to fully charged is at least 30 minutes, but with careful control and keeping the light off I can get almost 10 minutes of flight time.
Overall I really like this mini rc heli and consider it a great trainer for aspiring rc heli pilots - not to mention it is lots of fun to fly and easy to charge. Aside from the thin plastic skids this heli seems fairly stout and well built and for $20 to $30 in price, a great buy!
